With this blog series, I will share various people or things which have inspired me, starting with some photographers.
Anton Corbijn
One of the music industry's most famous photographers. If you have looked at photos of musicians/bands from the 1980’s,90’s, and 00’s, you will have most likely viewed a photo taken by Anton Corbijn.
On top of being an influential photographer, Anton has also directed some very famous music videos (for me the video to “Heart-Shaped Box” by Nirvana being the standout), alongside more recently film directing.
Back when I was discovering music in my teens, I spent a lot of time reading music magazines and some of the most memorable images for me were taken by Anton Corbijn. At the time I didn’t know who he was, even that it was the same photographer taking all these photos.
When I started taking music photography finding film for shooting in the dark environments of gigs and such like was difficult and expensive. Those contrasty black and white images that defined Corbijn’s early work, resonated in my mind whilst I captured images of pop-punk in the South of England during the early 2000’s.
